2012 Fall Hunting

The 2012 fall hunting season is basically over, with just a few more days of the youth doe season open.  Pheasants were tough to find, which meant that basically unless you got onto private land, your chances of finding them were about like winning the lottery.  But still, Casey and I went several times with the neighbor up the road, mostly trying to simply get some dog work done.  I had a great spot for turkeys, unfortunately, that area was tom's only and they only time I found tom's I was deer hunting my men-tee.  Guess that's why it's call hunting and not shooting!

Myself (far right), Ken (neighbor up the road) & Casey.  Right after Ken missed a pheasant for her opening weekend.  Hahahahahaha

 Break time.

Tired girl after covering lots of miles!

Grouse walk in early December - not a bird one, but a nice walk.

I've had Ashley out multiple weekend's this year.  Being a brand new hunter, there sure is a lot to learn!  We haven't been successful just yet, but this girl has commitment!

Top left:  making cookies for the landowner; bottom left:  hunkered down under a tree her first time hunting; upper right:  just came in from the evening hunt - it was much cooler then it was earlier in the day; bottom right:  BUSTED by the trail cam!

The next two hunts were fun; opportunity to harvest an animal, but just didn't quite get the trigger pulled fast enough.

Top left:  No sunglasses, so gotta make her own; the "abdominal snow-woman", nothing like Alaska slope covies to keep a hunter warm; middle row:  turkey's were rather tempting; having breakfast; bottom row:  figuring out shooting lanes in the huntin' shack; she stole my camera!

Our last opportunity to get during the 2012 calendar year was marked with one beautiful day, but a mountain lion had come back into the area and pretty much ran the deer out, and the next day was AWFUL, AWFUL weather.  Ashley didn't care about the blizzard though, or the fact that most of the roads were closed........she wanted to go hunting!  So, a hunting we went.

Top Left:  Sunset at the end of the day; upper middle:  wearing Bill's hunting pants makes for tripping hazards; lower middle:  no deer so some fun making snow angel's; far right:  just before the trip!  Lower left:  blizzard or not, Ashley wanted to go hunt; middle upper:  decent visibility; lower middle:  so much for visibility; far right:  in the middle of a blizzard no deer to be scene, but still smiling!
