Snowshoeing, ya Baby!!!

Well, so much for all the spring weather we had last week.  Winter came back with a vengeance over the weekend!  8-10 inches of the fresh, powdery, white stuff made for a fun day for my mentor girl**, Casey and myself.  Despite the wind-chill of -15*, we still had a fun afternoon.  We just didn't stay out to long!

Is that a million dollar smile or what?

Stand up!  You're supposed to walk on those, not slide!

I think Casey found EVERY burr around the lake.  It took almost a FULL two hours to get them all pulled.  Thank goodness for Show and Shine!

Pactola Lake.  The pictures doesn't show, but it was pretty.  The grey day just didn't make for much of a scenery picture.

**For privacy purposes, I don't give out my Little's name.

Roughlock Falls in Winter

Yesterday was such a gorgeous tease of a spring day, I just couldn't waste it inside!  Casey and I snowshoed up to Roughlock Falls in Spearfish Canyon....It's just as pretty in the winter as summer and fall!

Casey was vibrating when she saw the ducks.  I'd put her on the leash so she didn't take off after them (after all, she IS  a bird dog!).  Makes for a challenge in getting a clear picture.

The bridge just below the falls.

My destination, Roughlock Falls.

Lower Falls.

Standing over the upper falls.

Looking down the canyon from the bridge below the falls.

Had to burn some of her energy off!

Getting ready to dive under a tree.....there MUST be a bird down there to flush!

A Bright, Warm, Sunny Winters Day

Yesterday I took a drive up Spearfish Canyon.  It was +40*, and a really pretty day!  My intention was to hike up to Roughlock Falls, BUT, given all the snowmobilers at the "trail head", there was no place to park and I didn't have my snowshoes with me, so it was just a drive up the canyon and back.  The drive did make for nice photo opportunities.......

This bald eagle was fishing Spearfish Creek.
It's hard to a take pictures of a bird in flight - almost fell over several times!

I'm thinkin' this road is closed for the season!

Spoiled rotten little dog!

It's just a lie!

Thermometers lie just as bad as the weatherman does.......

It's REALLY only 3* (thankfully above!).
But wait for it.....
expecting wind chills of -17* today.  Awesome!

There is a bonus though..................

The MR. is doing snow removal!
I don't have to!!!!
