An Open Letter

As you all know, I am a mentor in South Dakota Youth Hunting Adventures.  About half way through this past hunting season I was paired with my third young lady to take through the four year program.  (I wrote of hunting experiences with her earlier on the blog.)  Sadie is in the program not because she is a 'troubled' young lady, but rather because Mom and Dad are both very busy excellent examples to both their kids - Dad has a start up gravel business in North Dakota so is gone a lot, Mom works full-time.  As busy as Mom and Dad are, they ALWAYS have time for their kids and supporting them in their activities.

You may remember that Sadie is an archer - something I know nothing about, but am quickly learning.  She was recently invited to compete in the 2015 Gator Cup in Newberry, Florida.  This tourney also is a draw for the 2015 World Cup in Yankton, SD - 18 successful kids (out of 450) will go on to Yankton.  The World Cup is one leg to compete for a spot on the USA Youth Archery Team.  Quite an accomplishment for a 12 year old - you read that right.....Sadie is 12.

Opportunities like this require funds....funds that have to be come up with quickly.  Here's where this post comes in.  Sadie is looking for sponsorships to help defray travel costs.  Her Dad will be traveling with her to Florida, then if (when) she is successful for Yankton, her family along with Bill and I will go along with her - campers in tow.  Sadie's fundraising efforts have not been left up to the adults in her life.  She, herself, has been passing letters out to area businesses asking for support and has had the experience of sitting across a giant conference table fielding questions not only about the tournament, but also about her commitment to archery.  This girl has try, heart and dedication.  Currently ranked 7th in a seven state region, at her last tournament she shot in two different divisions, one with Mom's bow, shooting a 148 out of 150 with 13 X's (the mark used for tie breaking), then in the other division shooting her bow and a 150 out of 150 with 22 X's.  Impressive to say the least.  Remember, she is 12.

Saturday Bill and I got together with Sadie and her family for a photo session for the thank you notes that will be mailed out to her sponsors.  Please consider a sponsorship for Sadie.  This is a very well grounded respectful young lady that I think is going to an excellent ambassador for shooting sports in general.

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Sadie Tesch.  I wanted to contact you as a potential sponsor for my trip to Newberry, Florida for the 2015 Gator Cup archery tournament.

The Gator Cup is the only qualifier in the United States for the 2015 Youth World Outdoor Archery Championship.  It is also an opportunity to compete for a possible spot in the USA Youth Archery Team.  This competition is a three day shoot, April 24-27th, in which we walk to each target and shoot from 5 to 50 meters at paper bulls eye, paper animals, and 3D animal targets.

I've been shooting archery since I was 8 years old, now at age 12, I have many accomplishments under my belt.  During this time I have competed in several indoor and outdoor archery tournaments and have placed in every one.  I am currently participating in Women's league and Target league at Black Hills Archery, 4H archery, Big Brothers/Big Sister program Youth Hunting Adventures and the National Archery in the Schools Program.  Archery is a very self disciplined sport that has helped me in all other aspects of my life, such as school.  I have an "A" average in school and I am on the Honor Roll. I feel archery is helping me to become the best person I can be.

I also enjoy hunting with my family.  I have harvested an animal every year, since the age of 10, either with my bow or my rifle.  My family and I love to be together in the outdoors, and they are the most wonderful support system.  They are always there for me if I need a ride to the archery shop or to just go out into the woods for some family time.

Going to Florida and competing in the Gator Cup would mean the world to me so that I may be able to follow my dream of representing my country at the 2015 Youth World Outdoor Archery Shoot.  Thank you for your consideration, and I would appreciate your support!

Sincerely,

Sadie Mae Tesch
